“Tell me and I’ll forget; show me and I may remember; involve me and I’ll understand.” (Chinese proverb)
My eyes brighten when I see a child develop a thirst for learning. To help children excel in their English skills, I include creative interaction through movement, visual aids, questions, games, and discussion.
My passion for teaching students of all ages has spanned thirty years and taken me across the United States and around the world. The last three years I’ve focused on teaching ESOL online to Chinese children (aged 4 – 14).
For younger children, I have a Teaching Assistant, Freddy the Frog (a hand-puppet), although sometimes he needs a little help himself in pronouncing a word correctly! With older students, I expand their learning through exploring and discussing topics they find interesting.
My education includes a college degree in English and History, a Master’s degree in Education, and a 120-hour course in teaching English as a Second Language.
I look forward to guiding your child to achieve excellence in their English language skills.
My wife, Pat, and I have two daughters, two grandsons, and two grand-dogs! My hobbies include creative writing, reading, landscaping, gardening, and hands-on projects around the house. Oh, and I enjoy entertaining children and adults with “magic.”
My teaching philosophy is that students learn best when they are actively involved and motivated. A good teacher discovers what motivates a student and provides the time and place for learning to take place. A teacher’s love for the subject being taught is exceeded only by his love for the student. Then, the teacher and student can journey together in discovering new things and developing new skills!
